American Public University System Graduate Program Earns Accreditation from Council on Education in Public Health

Charles Town, W. VA, July 6, 2017American Public University System (APUS) today announced that its Master of Public Health Program has been accredited for a five-year term by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), making it the first fully-online school to have its program so recognized.

The notification completes a multi-year process which included a year-long self-study and CEPH site visit in November 2016, according to Dr. Vernon Smith, provost.

“We are extremely proud to receive this additional distinction for our School of Health Sciences (SHS), which truly validates our ongoing commitment to quality, career-relevant programs and outstanding learning outcomes,” said Smith. “I also want to acknowledge the collective efforts of SHS Dean Dr. Brian Freeland, Program Director Dr. Samer Koutoubi and other key faculty and staff who have been an integral part of this process since its inception.”

The interdisciplinary Master of Public Health program, instructed by experts in the field, is designed to prepare professionals to resolve complex health issues and enhance the well-being of communities in the U.S. and around the world. It seeks to develop and empower leaders in the public health workforce by closely aligning with academic-community partners and focusing on scientific, psychological, and sociological competencies that significantly impact public health policy and practices.

“Our program integrates industry knowledge with academic credentials, giving students firsthand exposure to public health experts, criminal justice professionals, and security and emergency managers who respond to major disasters worldwide,” added Dr. Koutoubi.
